Key Message: Reduce paperwork, save time on marking.

“We have used the Platform at Dyson Perrins, after many years of delivering BTEC Sport programmes at Level 2 and Level 3. This learning tool has been of great support to all staff members in the implementation of an increasingly independent Key Stage 5 Curriculum. The platform gives the pupils the opportunity to work at their own pace and fully supports their progression through the tasks and assignments. The KS5 pupils have enjoyed using the platform as they are able to move on when they have completed tasks, but are still in a class environment to enjoy group and cooperative learning benefits.
From a tutor’s perspective, tasks are practical and relate to the grading criteria, these acts as stepping stones to support the delivery of the lessons. The marking dialogue has increased, with pupils submitting work for online marking. The Sport Brain™ allows us to interact with the pupil, giving feedback on their next steps as well as their achievements thus far. This has seen a dramatic reduction in the paper work and also the speed at which papers are marked. The tasks are a variety of practical assignments, presentations, video work as well as the traditional portfolios and written evidence. This diversity suits the vast majority of the pupils who have enrolled onto the BTEC programme.
Numbers are on the increase, with our pupils speaking to the lower school about the benefits of the BTEC, where using the platform is rated very highly. The platform has been a very helpful addition to the SPORTS BTEC and we have been pleased with the flexibility it can offer to the delivering staff, but also the range and content of the tasks and the pupils ability to use it to benefit their learning and overall attainment”.
